Homes for Car Collectors in Scottsdale and Paradise Valley
Most agents count garage bays. I measure them. Cody Wolfe, Wolfe Luxury Real Estate at The Agency Scottsdale, helps collectors buy and sell homes built around the garage.
Scottsdale has one of the deepest car cultures in the country, from weekly Cars and Coffee meetups to collector car auction week every January. Whether you have four cars and a project in the third bay, a truck and a boat, or a full collection, the garage is the first room you should judge a home by, and the one listings describe the worst. "Three-car garage" tells you almost nothing about whether three modern cars will actually fit. I'm a lifelong car guy, so I check what matters before you ever write an offer.
Why the Right Garage Is Hard to Find
If you've toured a "three-car garage" that barely fit two, you already know the problem. Home searches are built for bedrooms and bathrooms, not cars.
Search filters count spaces, not size
The MLS tells you how many cars a garage is listed for. It doesn't tell you depth, ceiling height, or door size.
Listings skip the garage
Most listing photos never show the garage, and descriptions rarely mention lifts, RV gates, or electrical capacity.
HOA rules hide in the fine print
Limits on trailers, driveway parking, and working on cars usually surface after you're under contract, if they surface at all.
Arizona heat changes everything
A garage that works in a mild climate can bake your cars and your tools here without insulation, ventilation, or cooling.
What I Check in Every Garage
Eight things a listing rarely tells you, and every one of them decides whether your cars fit.
Depth, not just bays
Modern trucks and SUVs often run past 19 feet. I check the actual depth of every bay, including the space lost to water heaters, steps, and storage.
Ceiling height for a lift
Most car lifts need at least 10 feet of clear ceiling, and larger vehicles need 11 to 12 feet. I measure clearance, including garage door tracks and openers.
Door height and width
A standard 7-foot door won't clear a lifted truck or a car on a trailer. I note door sizes and whether a taller door can be added.
RV gates and side access
Side-yard access, RV gates, and driveway length decide where a trailer, RV, or extra car can live, and whether city rules or the HOA allow it.
Cooling for Arizona heat
An uninsulated garage in Scottsdale can get far hotter than outside. I look at door insulation, ventilation, and whether the space is cooled or can be.
Electrical capacity
Level 2 chargers need a dedicated 240-volt circuit, and a lift or compressor adds more load. I check the panel before you plan on charging three cars.
HOA rules
Some HOAs restrict trailers, driveway parking, working on cars, or using the garage for anything but parking. I read the rules before you fall in love with a home.
Room to add or expand
If the garage isn't enough, the lot might be. I look at lot size, setbacks, and zoning to see whether a detached garage or expansion is realistic.
Where Car Enthusiasts Live
Big garages come with big lots, and big lots come with tradeoffs. Here's where I start a search when the garage matters.
For sellers
Selling a Car Enthusiast's Home
A great garage is worth more to the right buyer than to anyone else, but only if that buyer finds it and understands it. Most listings bury the garage in one photo and a bay count. I market it as the feature it is.
A garage spec sheet
Depth, ceiling height, door sizes, electrical, cooling, and RV access, measured and listed so a collector can tell in seconds whether their cars fit.
Photos and video built around the garage
The garage gets its own shoot, with cars in place when it helps, so buyers see the space the way they would actually use it.
Ads aimed at car buyers
Paid Instagram and Facebook campaigns target people who follow collector cars, auctions, and motorsport, not just anyone browsing homes.
The local car community
I'm part of Scottsdale's car scene, from Cars and Coffee mornings to Car Week, and I put the right homes in front of the collectors and agents I know there.

Garage Condos: The Other Option
Sometimes the right answer isn't a bigger house. A garage condo is a deeded garage suite you own outright, usually with tall ceilings, climate control, and room for a lift or a lounge. Several new projects are underway in north Scottsdale near the Loop 101 and the Scottsdale Airpark.
I help clients weigh a garage condo against buying a home with a bigger garage, including dues, rules, resale, and what the move actually costs.
- You love your home but it can't hold your cars
- You live in a condo or an HOA that restricts cars
- You want a lift, a workshop, or a place to meet other enthusiasts
- You want to work on your cars at home, every day
- Monthly dues and association rules are a dealbreaker
- You need the space to add value to the home you live in
Questions Car People Ask
Which Scottsdale real estate agent specializes in homes for car enthusiasts and collectors?
I'm Cody Wolfe, a broker with Wolfe Luxury Real Estate at The Agency Scottsdale. Homes for car enthusiasts and collectors are one of my focus areas. I check garage depth, lift clearance, door height, RV access, cooling, electrical capacity, and HOA rules before my buyers make an offer.
How big should a garage be for four or more cars?
Count cars, then check depth. Many modern trucks and SUVs run past 19 feet, so a garage that's shallow or crowded by water heaters and steps can lose a bay in practice. Plan for walking room around each car and space for tools, chargers, and storage.
How much ceiling height do I need for a car lift?
Most car lifts need at least 10 feet of clear ceiling height, and larger vehicles or taller lifts need 11 to 12 feet. Garage door tracks and openers can cut into that, so I measure the real clearance, not the listed ceiling height.
Can I park an RV or trailer at a home in Scottsdale?
It depends on the home's city rules, the HOA, and the lot. An RV gate, side-yard access, and a long driveway help, but some HOAs restrict trailers and RVs entirely. I check the rules for each home early in the process.
Which areas are best for car enthusiasts and collectors in Scottsdale and Paradise Valley?
Paradise Valley, the Cactus Corridor, North Scottsdale, and Arcadia are the best places to start. They have larger lots, many homes have no HOA, and there's often room for an RV gate or a detached garage. In neighborhoods with an HOA, the rules on garages, trailers, and parking need a close read first.
What is a garage condo, and is it worth it in Scottsdale?
A garage condo is a deeded garage suite you own, usually with tall ceilings and climate control, in a building with other enthusiasts. It can make sense if your home can't hold your cars or your HOA restricts them. Weigh the monthly dues, association rules, and resale against buying a home with a bigger garage.
How do I keep a garage cool in Arizona?
Start with an insulated garage door, then add ventilation such as a thermostat-controlled exhaust fan. For a fully cooled space, a ductless mini-split cools the garage like a room. I note what a home already has and what it would take to add it.
Can I add a garage after I buy?
Often, if the lot allows it. Lot size, setbacks, zoning, and HOA rules decide whether a detached garage or an expansion is possible. With a Master of Real Estate Development, I look at that potential before you buy, not after.
Do you help sell homes with large garages?
Yes. I market the garage like the feature it is, with dedicated garage photos and the details car buyers look for, like depth, ceiling height, door size, and electrical capacity, in front of the buyers who care most.
Tell me about your cars.
How many you have, what you drive, and what the garage needs to do. I'll tell you which neighborhoods fit, and I'll start watching for the homes that do, on and off the market.
